Secondhand smoke involuntarily inhaled by rsonsn)okers from other people's idearettes rs cl~sified by
the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency as a known human (Group A) carcinogen, responsible for
approximately 3,tm0 lung cancer deaths annualty in U.S, nonsmokers.
N a public twitdistg with asbestos, such ~ e stand-abne bar, were cbsed so this carcinogen is
removed: why would we support a work environment that fords the staff to breatis smother (Group A)
carcinogen?
The Environm~fal Protection Agency found tisM children who breathe secondhand smoke are more
likely to sufferfrom brork;hitis and pneumonia, wheezing and coughing spells, ear infections, arsd ma+e
frequent and severe asthma attacks. The Lung Assoclatlon is very cortcamed about the rfifWren who
breathe in secondhand srndce.
For this reason, we would ask the you and the Council members to inGude the outdoor eatkg areas of
restaurants and bars as snwke-free areas and to return to Draft 3 of bill no. 26010 pass as written. I
ask you not th revise this bill and to albw g_II of the citizens of our county to en)oy ell pubk: places,
