Because the passage of Bill 260, in the form of Draft 3, is itrrporWtt to me, and because I am
unable to attend the Cotu~cA Hearings on Wednesdt{y. June 1 B, I am expressing rtp+ concerns
via FAX and hope they will Ix heard by the Council.
I am a senior, a srtmp business owner, a mother and grandmother. I applaud the Council's
efforts toward eliminating smoking in restaurants. BUT, it is important for the Council to not be
swayed by eftbrts of some to exclude common spaces in hotels, open air restaurams and
esp.~:..:ly aduk and child day care centers.
As one who is not only allergic to second hand smoke, and has lost one kidney and part of a second
kidney to kidney cancer directly attn'btrtable to second hand smoke, it is critical to my well
being that I not be subjected to furttrcr tobacco smoke. I dine out frequently. In oprn air
restaurants that allow smoking, the circulation of air causes smoke from several dirxtioris to assault
diners. I have been usable to socialize with friends in bars for years, and would appreciate
having some nonsmoking establishments that warned my business.
While it is an option for me to not socialize in bars, it is not an option for myself or my
grandchildren to be unable to make ux of Aduh or Child Day Care. A business in a home is
still a business. If it provides a service, it does so for profit. Children and aduhs att in
Day Care Centers because their families are unable to provide Hill time care for them at home.
This is the most fragile and susceptible portion of our population and the group that needs
the Counties protection. Aduhs and Children in Day Care Centere should not be subjected to
second bend smoke.
