Deaz Chairman Arakaki and Councilmembers:
On behalf of the Hawaii Island Tobacco-Free Parmership, East Hawaii Unit and myself,
Mahalo for your commitment in protecting all workers and patrons from second hand
smoke. We aze very pleased with the outcome of yesterday's hearing, and applaud you for
making the difficult, but night decision-
While we maintain thac it is clearly a health issue, this piece of legislation is by no means
an easy matter to address. We applaud all of you for your cazefUl consideration of all sides.
Our Partnership is committed to educating our community and its businesses about second
nand smoke in the workplacq and will continue to do so once this bill is passed. We know
it will be important to help workers, patrons and business owners to make a smooth
transition to going smoke-free.
We ask that you continue to keep the health of all workers and patrons in mind as we head
into the final reading for Bill 260.
Once again, thank you for protecting all workers and patrons!
Sincerely,
U? vt~vV+^ry
