I am writing you this letter in the hopes that you will take the time to read itl I am a native born local
resident. I am Caucasian/Hawaiian. I am a good wife, person, and mother. I am a non smoker. I have
never smoked, never will, and my son won't either. I am also finding myself to be very much on the
smoker's side of this issue, and am sad to see that people cannot we the freedom of choice be threatened
here. This bill is too strong, and represents prejudice in my eyed
PAGE 01
What people choose to do with their own lives, is completely up to them! It doesn't mean they will always
choose to be unhealthy. People choose to do good too, without force! THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF IT
ALL! I believe in God, and I truly believe he made us all different for a good reason! 1 heard a Pastor the
other day speak against the smoker, and it saddened me how narrow minded these people ate.
You are dealing with a group of angry people who are nastily against smoking, and have the nasty verbal
and body language to show it. They have obviously experienced pain from a loved one dying, apparently
related to smoking. They are bitter and are on a quest to make their point. What they need is some
serious counseling to move forward in their personal lives, and not drag other good people down with
them, just because they stroke.
I know many good, bard working, tax paying, people who smoke! The other side is making them out to
be freaks. They desire a smoke free island. WELL WE COULD OPEN UP KAHO'OLAWE FOR TBE
THEM. THEY COULD LIVE THERE. ALONE IN TBEIR CONTROL POWER TRIP WORLD! We
are living every day not knowing how we are going to die. We could be in a car accident today, anything.
The vog alone on this island is an issue. I DARE THESE HAOLE REBELS GO AND TALK TO
MADAM PELEIiflllrllllnli,
Now we talk about PARADISE! We built this place in the SPIRIT OF ALOHA, and made it to be the
wonderful place it isl These protestors against smoking probably were never born and raised here It
looked good, they came• now they want to control. I have fret no true locals strongly for this bill. NONE!
I have met and seen many haoles however• strongly for this bill. 1 am greatly concerned because of the
prejudice' This time it's not because of the color of our skin, it is because a person may smoke a cigarette.
WHAT ARE WE COMING TOO? It's the same tbingl11111
Smoking is not illegal! Hard drugs like cocaine and ice arel And they are here) And our hard carted tax
motley should be focused there. If these big organizations really cared they wouldn't be wasting our
money on their petty issues. Our smokers pay outrageous taxes, for your paychecks, for organizations,
etc
I am totally shocked to hear of the attack on small businesses as well l You're taping about a cocktail
lounge type of business that can't even have a customer come in have a drink, have a cigarette, and relax.
IT'S TOTALLY RIDICULOUS! Our small business owners have been attacked for everything. I know
owners who pay huge for insurances, medicals, everything imaginable. Our small businesses make us
unique herein Hawai'i Nei. Our small businesses are our backbone! We've already been witnesses to
the pain of a drop in econotm . You want to we our tourism drop even more? Wait till you tell the
Japanese tourists who spend great money, they can't smoke.

People . Don't move backwards. Let's trove forward to make this place, our home, even better. LET'S
FIND A WAY TO COMPROMISE and make it so that everyone no matter what the differences, can live
heretogether and be happy. IT'S AMERICAN AND IT'S HOW IT SHOULD HEI
Good Lock, Be FAIR, and we'll all be watching!

To Our County Council Members,
I attar ed the Kona maeting regarding Bill #260, and was very angry to we the one-sided treatment and
mind set. It was NOT a mecting that showed f tirdoas that each side receive equal time to speak I am a
non smoker, but am against this bill, as it clearly atteda a person's freedom of choice_
So called -professional" people from the side against smolring, displayed a strong lack of oompassion
and decency, as I watched them laugh, talk out loud, and applaud when smatl business owners spoke
about their concerns and worries of losing their livebboodsl Flow bitter! They used their children, and
Put on a show, but the bottom line is that they want to farce others to be like them. We are a society of
different people with different interests. This has to be a pkaoe for everyone- We should each choose bow
we are going 10 live and how we may one day die.
A doctor Kutz was allowed to speak 35 min. macad of the given 3mm. I heard this doctor doesn't even
see patients who smoke. Now if that isn't prejudice slapping as dghl in the face.
We talk about the worries of employees who work with smdcaca. Well don't go in the smoking areas.
We designate smoking arras. If it's a bar, my God, get another job, What's so hard about that.
Small businesses can barely survive the season, as they now have to fight for this too? They still have to
work everyday, and they have to fight against mpmzations that have major employees that our tax money
and donations all pay for. Small businesses are the backbone of Hawaii. They've art the pace of the
Aloha that so many are attracted to and oome to vial. Theme protestors aro tryimg to get into privately
owned businesses. If they don't want to go to those establishments, don't go, but don't ruin it for others.
Smoking is NOT a direct link to ice, crack, and hard dnrgsl! 1 t Geez!
YOU ARE GOOD LEADERS, EDUCATED IN THE FREEDOM OF CHOICES AND DIFFERENCES,
AND EVERYONE LIVING IN HARMONY, NOT CONTROL. DON'T JUST HEAR WHAT YOU
WANT TO HEAR, HEAR IT ALL!
Aloha,
Kim K-, age33

DEAR COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBERS
WE ELECTED YOU IN GOOD FAITH THAT YOU WOULD AT ALL TIMES CONSIDER "ALL THE
PEOPLE" AND NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF THAT! THIS BILL SN260 IS IN NO WAY CONSIDERING
ALL THE PEOPLE. IT IS VERY ONE-SIDED, AND VERY MUCH NON -AMERICAN, IN THAT IT
IS NOT GIVING A PERSON THE FREEDOM OF CHOICE!" IT IS ONE OF THE STRICTEST BILLS
I HAVE SEEN. WITH NO EXEMPTIONS, AND IT MAKES NO SENSE.
WHAT SETS US APART AND MAKES US SPECIAL AS AMERICANS IS THE FACT THAT WE DO
HAVE THE FREEDOM OF CHOICE. WE CHOOSE HOW WE WANT TO LIVE OR DIE. IT'S TIE
INDIVIDUAL'S CHOICE! A GROUP OF BITTER PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN TOGETHER AND
HAVE DECIDED WHAT AND HOW AMERICANS SHOULD BEI THEY DON'T LIKE SMOKING
SO THAT'S HOW IT IS! WRONG1111! 1
WI:'- 'WILL THEY ATTACK NEXT? ....- THE FACT THAT 1 LIKE TO HAVE A GLASS OF
WINE ONCE IN AWHILE, OR THAT I SOMETIMES LIKE TO HAVE A JUICY, UNHEALTHY
HAMBURGER WITH FRIES? OR NO! MAYBE ONE DAY WE'LL ALL BE FORCED TO SIGN UP
ATA GYM..... FOR OUR HEALTH' MY GOD! WHERE IS THIS GOING?
YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF ALL THE PEOPLE, NOT JUST THE LOUD MOUTHS
WITH MONEY. LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE, SEE THAT THIS IS A PLACE WHERE
DIFFERENT PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT LIKES AND DISLIKES NEED TO MAKE IT WORK AND
LIVE TOGETHER.
FROM,
A NON-SMOKER

Dear County Council Members.
I am anon smoker, very concerned about Bill #260 to ban smoking111111! I What concerns me is our
freedom of choice being threatened and no one seeming to care! It's so common sense to see that the ones
attacking smoloag/smokers are clearly in it to control and force everyone else to be like them. These huge
orgw _ations backed by big money, of which I have donated to in the past, are attacking everyone,
including small business owners, which upsets me ! I WILL NEVER DONATE TO THESE
ORGANIZATIONS AGAIN! EVER'
DON'T BE BLINDED BY PREYMICEI
FROM A VERY CONCERNED CITIZEN!

County Council,
You want to see people get wild and angry? Fight and Sue! Well pass this bill with no exceptions!
Smokers don't ask for extremes. They certainly don't say it has to be their way onlyl .... like the
Protestors for non-smoking do!
Our American Soldiers who fight for OUR FREEDOM, only ask for respect, and they've asked for
cigarettes too! There's a word to think about— "American." "Freedom!"
Are we afraid to go after the ice , cocaine, crack pushers/dealers? Is that why we are wasting time and tax
money on this? We're not that stupid. Move forward. Pass a bill that respects all people. Leave the
small businesses alone. Show the protestors and Heart Ass. that they will have to consider ALL the
people too, and not force others to be like them, because they have their own beliefs. They don't like
smoking, then stay away from smokers in their designated areas. Don't go to bars that have smoking.
Stay home and have a tea party.
We will ALL die one day, Let us choose to live and enjoy our lives here on earth the way we individuals
want tn!
As Leaders, you have the responsibility to consider us ALL!
From,
A Non Smoker, Kona
