By far the largest concern that we have with this project is using Sarona Road as the only
ingress/egress road. The current condition of only one lane, in one direction, is not an
acceptable way to access a hotel of this size. The potential for pedestrian/car accidents
on the sidewalks of Ali'i Drive seem to be obvious at this very busy location. A condition
that makes it mandatory to widen Sarona Road to a lane each way, at least from Kuakini
to the entrance of the proposed hotel, before opening for business, should be included in
any permit approval. A case could be made, to even block the access from Ali'i Drive, so
that the project would have to be entered from Kuakini.
2. The committee is eery aware that the County is planning to improve the section of
Kuakini highway that is impaled by this project, however iC would be presumptuous to
approve the hotel on the grounds of plans that may possibly be years away. It should be
suggested that if the proposed hotel must be open for business before the county can
improve Sarona Ruad as part of the Kuakini Project, then the developers should
widen the selion that they would he using.
