Subject: PROMOTING NON-SMOKING HOTEL ROOMS
Aloha Mr. Tyler,
In today's Wl-!T newspaper l read where the fourth draft of the "Smoking
Bill" has "...the requirement that hotels have no more than 20 percent of
their rooms designated for smoking guests." (front page, secotad paragraph)
To avoid it looking as though the County is requirixtg rooms for smokers, I
would like to suggest drat the wording be uhatrgCd W rcyuirc that hotels
have at least 80 percent of their rooms designated for non-smoking guests,
as non-smokitrQ rooms. This would give the distinct message that the
interests ofnon-smokers are of concern by the legislation.
Perhaps the bill should be known as the "Non-Smoking Bill". After all, the
bill is intended to promote non-smoking in public places.
I have not read the bill, but would hope that the bill specifically lists
public schools as public places where smoking is hannui, incluriing school
rounds and school buses, if possible.
Ivlahalo for your concern with respect to protecting non-smokers from
second-hand smoke.
