My name is Lisa Roberts-Kauka and 1 strongly support Bill 260 without exemptions, which would
effectively prohibit smoking in all wmkplnces, recognizing the importane:e of providing a safe working
wviro~rent for all employes, including those ofbats and nightclubs.
I work at Kilauea Military Camp. 1 have ber,~tt employed with the government for 18yrs. i have been dtc
business manager for 1$ yrs and had taken over the Food and Beverage department in 1993.
1'he reason why T support this bill is because I had suffered a grant deal over the years due m inhaling
smoke while I had to work. In 1995, i became very ill with asthma. 1 was so bad that 1 had to carry around
an inhaling machiae. The asthma spe<:ialist pot me on daily medication and 1 finally started to really get
better. I had no choice but to work to support my family. So Chore were times when i needed to work in
the bar when we had special programs. Those evenings that I had to work 1 had to go home after work and
go on the inhaliag machine cause of all the srnokc I labeled during the coarse of the evening. It was
unfnrtnnate Htat 1 had to be in that environment, but I had to do my job. 'ibis continual up until Decenl6er
2002, when our bnr because Smoke Free. Everyone to include myself was really worried about a lost of
income cause $0% of our cuswtacro were smokers. But, since we have become anon-smoking bar, our

Yuu have ur consider the employees and customers who do not smoke. They all say that the custornera
don't have patronized that particular bar. But. what about the employeesY is it fair to say, they don't have
to work? (h tell [hem to go Find anothcrjob outside of the food and beverage indusery't The food and
beverage industry makes available thousands of jobs, So how do we say to people who don't like to inhale
smoke gn find another job"
