Re: No Smoking in Workplaces
I very much support the no smoking in restaurants bill -but Draft 3 is the preferred
version. Smoking within confined spaces should be eliminated both for workers and
for customers. It is generally agreed that smoking is unhealthy (why aze there
warnings on cigarette packages?), thus how can we expect workers or children or
people in the care of others, to be forced to breathe second-hand smoke?
A few restaurant owners are worried about losing business, but if all restaurants are
non-smoking, it isn't likely to be a problem. It might even help! There aze restaurants
in Kona that my husband and I will not visit, due to smoking issues. Plus, smokers
manage to go five-plus hours every time they fly to/from the mainland - I find it hard
to believe smokers can't go without smoking for the one or two hours they might
spend in a restaurant.
I don't care if people smoke - in their own spaces. I don't want to breathe someone
else's smoke -their smoking an imposition I shouldn't have to put up with.
