I am proud to have spent 24 years of my life defending our country; it's
freedoms and our constitution. In so doing 1 swore a sacred oath to defend
them against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Today [ am still bound
by that oath both legally and morally. The council bias exhibited at the
November ?.6. 2002 and June 18, 2003 hearings on Bill 260, and
councitmember's public statements have made my course very clear. 1'he
council's refi~sal to consider factual information that differs from vour
personal views and prejudices places each of you into the category of
domestic enemies of our republic. In ottr republic elected officials have a
solemn duty to represent al[ the people, not just a small well-organized
minority that relies on misint~~rmation, intimidation and worst of all has to
exploit our keiki to make their point.
Each of you is aware that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
report claiming :1,000 people die from lung cancer from enviromnental
tobacco smoke (ETSl was declared null and void in a U. S. Federal District
court in 1998. To date there has been no sucec~~ssful appeal of that ruling.
You are also aware that Stanton Glantz (a modern day snake oil salesman)
fabricated 50,000 heart disease ETS deaths a year. A California Court
threatened him with a restraining order for destroying documents stolen
from a tobacco compauy. The court charged him with unauthorized use of
University of California resources for political lobbying. Since 1998 the
American Cancer Society, American Heart and Lung Associations (the big
3) have known Glant~'s work was bogus, yet they continue to use the
number to this day along with the null and void EPA number. "The
Coordinator for the West Hawaii Tobacco Free Coalition also continues to
blame 53,000 deaths a year on smokers knowing full well it is a lie.
Ladies and gentlemen when those deaths do not exist how can anyone
possibly be blamed for them? These charlatans are killing democracy,
freedom of choice, fairness and our Aloha Spirit. I provided you with 138
pages-of testimony at the November 2002 hearing on Bill 260 and if any oP
you read it (you've haul over 6 months) you would know that bills like 260
have devastated the food and beverage industries whenever they have been
enacted not helped as the organized liars are telling you.
