I am anon-smoker with some friends who smoke. The world would probably be a better place without smoking. But, that
is not going to happen in the near future. I urge the County Council to not adopt this draconian smoking ban, Bill #260.
Let the marketplace deal with it. The paying public has the right to not patronize businesses where smoking is allowed. It
is probably good that most restaurants on this island have already chosen to go smoke-free. Many have chosen to do so
recently and gotten good publicity out of it. For the few establishments that do have smoking, the success of their
business will be determined by the free choice of their customers.
If we ban smoking based on concerns for public health, will we next be dictating what is served by restaurants if our
elected offcials recognize that most popular restaurants serve food portions that are too large and contain too much fat?
Then, why don't we ban the consumption of alcoholic beverages? Anybody remember Prohibition?
