O. Box 383322 Waikoloa, Hawaii Dear Ms. La Bonte: I have received your e-mail message dated June 18, 2003, conveying your opposition to Bill 260, the proposed smoking ban. Thank you for writing to me about this. The County Council is the policy-making body that will take this matter up on second and final reading this Wednesday, July 2, so I will forward a copy of your message to them for their information. I have written to the County Council about my concerns about BiII 260 as presently written. For your information, I am attaching a copy of my letter so that you can understand my position. Thank you for taking the time to write, and for sharing your views with me. Aloha, arry Kim MAYOR Attachment - Letter to Hawaii County Council cc: Hawaii County Council Comm. No. Ref. Ta af. Date Page I of I Dixie Kaetsu From: "annette" <netta@aloha.net> To: <cohmayor~interpac.net> Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2003 1:33 PM Subject: Bi11260 Bill 260 is not about smoking. It will erode one of our basic freedoms: the freedom of choice. I do not smoke. I choose to go to non-smoking establishments. That is MY freedom of choice. If Joe Blow chooses to go to a smoking bar--that is HIS freedom of choice. Bill 250 will take away his freedom. The free marketplace will take care of the smoking issue. If the anti-smoking group can persuade enough people to quit smoking, then, eventually, smoking bars will go out of business. DO NOT legislate away another of our freedoms!!
