I feel strongly about provisions that would protect all workplacesincluding those private residences when used as a licensed childcare, adult day care or health care facility, at the very least during hours of operation. Tobacco has crept into every facet of society as a norm and it is a known killer. By passing this bill, it will be the start of making it safe for all workers. I appreciate all the time and energy you councilmembers have put into this bill and it's implications, I trust you alt to make your informed decision for all of Hawaii County. Breathing environmental tobacco smoke(ETS) substantially reduces blood slow velocity in the coronary arteries of healthy young adults. Exposure to ETS results in the deaths of approximately 35,000 non smoking Americans annually from coronary heart disease. The risk of death from coronary heart disease increases by up to 30 percent among those exposed to envirometttal tobacco smoke at home or work. A study released on April 1, 2003 at the 52id Annual College of Cardiology Scientific Session in Chicago provides empirical evidence that smokefree ordinances can have immediate and dramatic Impact on heart disease morbidity. Researchers reviewed the chaps of patirnts discharged with a primary or secondary diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction in Ilelena, Montana following implementation of a citywide ordinance banning smoking in public places.
