Aloha County Council. COUNTY ; 11- HAWAII
1 am writing you this letter in the hopes that you will take the time to read it! I am a native born local
resident. 1 am Caucasian/Hawaiian. [ am a good wife, person, and mother. 1 am a non smoker. 1 have
never smoked, never will, and my son won't either. I am also finding myself to be very much on the
smoker's side of tl»s issue. and am sad to see that people cannot see the freedom of choice be threatened
here. This bill is loo strong, and represents prejudice in my eyes!
What people choose to do with their own lives, is completely up to them! tt doesn't mean they will always
choose to be unhealthy. People choose to do good too, without force! THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF IT
ALL! [believe in God, and I truly believe he made us all different for a good reason! I heard a Pastor the
other day speak against the smoker, and it saddened me how narrow minded these people are.
You are dealing with a group of angry people who arc nastily against smoking, and have the nasty verbal
and body language to show it. They have obviously experienced pain from a loved one dying, apparently
related to smoking. They are bitter and are on a quest to make their point What they need is some
serious counseling to move forward in their personal lives, and not drag other good people down with
them, just because they smoke.
I know man}' good, Bard working, lax paying, people wha smoke! The otlrer side is mating them out to
be freaks. They desire a smoke free island WELL WE COULD OPEN UP KAHO'OLAWE FOR THE
THEM. THEY COULD LIVE THERE. ALONE IN THEIR CONTROL POWER TRIP WORLD! We
are living every day not knowing how we arc going to die. We could be in a car accident today, agvthing.
The vog alone on [his island is an issue. I DARE THESE HAOLE REBELS GO AND TALK TO
MADAM PELE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we talk about PARADISE! We built this place in the SPIRIT OF ALOHA, and made it to be the
wonderful place it is! These protestors against smoking probably were never born and raised here. It
looked good, they came, now they wan[ to control. I have met no true locals strongly for this bill. NONE!
1 have met and seen many haoles however, strongly for this bill. I mn greatly concerned because of the
prejudice! This time it's not because of the color of our skin, it is because a person may smoke a cigarette.
WHAT ARE WE COMING TOO? It's the same Uting!!!!!!
Smoking is not illegal! Hard drugs like cocaine and ice are! And they arc here! And our hard earned tax
money should be focused there. if these big organizations really cared Wey wouldn't be wasting our
money on their petty issues. Orr smokers pay ouVageous taxes, for your paychecks, for organizations,
cic.
I am totally shocked to hear of the attack on small businesses as well! You're talking abort a cocktail
lounge type of business that can't even have a customer come iu have a drink, have a cigarette, and relax.
IT'S TOTALLY RIDICl1LOUS! Our small business owners have bcen attacked for everything. [know
owners who pay huge for insurances, medicals, everything imaginable. Our stnall businesses make us
unique here in Hawaii Nei. Our stroll businesses are our backbone! We've already been witnesses to
the pain of a drop in economy. You want to see our tourism drop even more'? Wait till you tell the
Japanese tourists who spend great money, they can't smoke.

Apparcn0y we still have to Icarn how to be a better people! I have faith in you leaders. You are good
people. Don'[ move backwards. Let's move forward to make this place, our home, even better. LET'S
FIND A WAY TO COMPROMISE and make it so that everyone no matter what the differences, can live
here together and be happy. IT'S AMERICAN AND IT'S HOW IT SHOiJLD BE!
Good Luck, Be FA1R, and we'll all be watching!
