Dear Mr. Rohner:
Subject: Hawaii Tribune Herald Sign Vaziance Request (TMK 2-3-10:03)
Mr. Jim D. Wilson, Publisher of the Hawaii Tribune Herald, has requested a vaziance from the
County Code to allow placement of a sign, which does not conform with the County Code, in
front of their new building. This matter has been placed on the Public Works and Parks
Committee agenda for its meeting on May 19, 1997.
Upon investigation, we have discovered that the proposed sign will be located within the
Downtown Hilo Redevelopment Plan azea. This matter thus falls within the jurisdiction of the
Hawaii Redevelopment Agency. -
Consequently, we would respectfully request that this matter be submitted to the Hawaii
Redevelopment Agency for its review and recommendation. In particular we would appreciate
your advice as soon as possible, as to whether the Hawaii Redevelopment Agency's authority
over this matter supersedes the authority of the County Council. A copy of the request is
attached.
