Council action is being requested to accept and acknowledge a contribution of $10,000 by the Hawaii
Community Foundation. These monies will be used for the Hawaii Island Methamphetamine Summit. This
day long conference will be co-hosted by US Senator Daniel K. Inouye, Mayor Harry Kim, and Police Chief
Lawrence Mahuna. US Congressman Ed Case and US Attorney Ed Kubo will also be guest speakers.
Last year, over 350+ participants representing every sector of the community gathered to address the
problem of ICE, solutions to the problem, barriers to implementing solutions, and resources to address
solutions. This year, the community is focused on taking the collective next step and sustaining the
momentum generated over the past year.
