SUBJECT: Request Waiver of County Variance
Mr. / Mrs. Chairperson,
This is a formal request for the waiving of the county variance pertaining to commercial
sign dimensions. I work for Sun Ind. Inc here on the island of Hawaii and am the project
manager. We have been contracted by the local Nissan dealership to install four signs
which are the channelized marquee type.
While in the process of submitting for a sign permit with the Dept. of Public Works ( Building
Division ). It was brought to my attention by Patrick Tanihiro that the proposed sign sizes
exceed the allowable dimensions. As directed by Patrick — I would need to request from the
County Council a waiver allowing these sign to be installed within this zoning area. During a
field visit I have noticed that there are other businesses within this same zoning with signs
larger than those we a proposing for future installation.
As of date any help that you can provide whether it be rejecting or allowing these signs would
highly appreciated. This project is at a standstill and the Nissan dealership is awaiting a reply
as to what actions must be taken to resolve this situation. Attached is a copy of the proposed
channelized sign dimensions.
