Aloha Curtis,

almost two years. The committee is very concerned about this crosswalk because it is the site of two pedestrian deaths in the
past two years. To the committee, this demands that some special treatment be given in changing its configuration.
The Depamuent of Public Works determination to move the crosswalk to the new created intersection Just to the south of the
rhumh was supported by the cottunittee after teaming that the conf.Tegatioa was also suppo[tlve of the move, and were also
building a parking lot on the makai side of the chtuch for handicapped and "slowmoving" parishioners,
Huwuvo~, the following conecros still remain: All attendees at the ]ast committee tm+nring agreed [ha[ most pedestrians will
cross at the shortest point, so would probably be crossing where the crosswalk now stands, irre~mdless of its new location.
Along with this bthttv(oral consideredon, the physical environment is a jumble with driveways, cars parked along the
shoulders, buaintssts with h,gress/c~ss traffic, all kinds of aiSits (eandwich/business/ttaffie...)and pedna'kfana dashing
across the street :o get to the numerous businesses and institutions, which include a stage library, a day care, banks, a grocery
store, a doctor's office, and much more.
With this ht mind the committee hopes that some special treatment will be included in the move, such as:
• an overhead caution light (or blinking ligh[ when prtssed by a pedestrian)
• markings on the pavement denoting an approaching crosswalk
• a reduction in the speed limit o _
• a heightened level of citations for Illegally parked cars w
• me creation of a veldt "pedestrian wuc" which ,cakes sate that car drivers know thnt they 0~e e•i~d clags.,uxr~.
