Dear Councilman Elarionoff:
This is in response to your telephone conversation on September 2, 2003 with Sergeant
Randy Apele of our Traffic Services Section regarding the adoption of the proposed
Traffic Code Amendment of a new bus stop, elimination of the mid-block crosswalk, and
adjusting the passenger loading zone on Kilauea Avenue at Waiakeawaena Elementary
School.
Staff has reviewed the proposals and supports the request for adoption of the amendment.
The changes will increase traffic safety and alleviate some of the traffic congestion in the
area.
We do however, have continued concems of motorists dropping-off passengers along the
shoulder portion of the roadway on the northbound lane near or at the intersection of
Kilauea Avenue/Kawailani Street.
We will continue to work closely with the staff of Waiakeawaena Elementary School
regarding this important matter.
Should you have any further concems or questions please contact Sergeant Randy Apele
at 961-2305.
Sincerely,
i~
