For the last few years, espedalty with in Irdlrnc of visitors arriving on cruise ships in Kailas
Kona, we taxi drivers haw been plagued by the (ack of an approprlste waltlnp area/taxi
stand to aid visitors arrivkng on the pier. Cuebomerlly one or two can would park oubide
the pier entrance, near the banyan tree fronting the King Kamehameha hotel, the taxi
operators are constantly playing a eat and mouse yams with the pocky who shoo us nut of
them because it is not a legal parking space. An oMdalty designated taxi waitlny area would
alleviate a lot of congestion and confusion as currently tad delvers haw to stand on the pier
and hustle the tourlsb, tl~en males them wall on the sidewalk while the run and yet our
vehicles that are parked elsewhere. This rssulb In chaos and sometimes r~ulYA in oonflitts
with drivers takir?g loads they r'Igfrtfulty shouldn't, because they show up with a vehicle,
while the driver who "oontracbad"with tM client Is running to get his car. Please Hobe that
when there wrs a horse end earrisge service, these spaces were designated for their use on
crabs arrival days. Naw that fire horse and cartage Is no longer in operation ,these spars
would be ideal for a taxi waittny area. Several months ago I submitted a letter of need
along wlih a petition of taxi drlwrs' names backing the requeae. I met with Tom Brown
regarding the Issue and he agreed R wouk! ba a seraibk end feasible propasitlon. You can
be assured that designated taxi spates would relieve a logistiea headedye for the police and
greatly benefl! the visitors and businesses in Ki;ilua Kona town by having a central taxi
stand in town. We are eagerly awaiting some positive action belbre the upcoming cruise
season begliK.
