RI'.: Request to Waive Consideration of HSAC Executive Committee Item Relating to the
Appointment of Councilmember Gary Safarik to the Western Interstate Region (WIR)
Board of Directors
Pursuant to Section l(g) of Rule 4 of the Procedure of the Council of the County of Hawai' i, 1 request
your support for waiver of this matter from my Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental
Relations for consideration and approval by the full Council at its next scheduled meeting on October 8,
2003.
At the request of Councilman Safarik, HSAC Vice President, I am transmitting a memorandum dated
August 28, 2003 from Dain P. Kane, HSAC President, requesting our Council's consideration of the
recommendation of the HSAC Executive Committee to appoint Council Member Gary Safarik to the
Western Interstate Region (WIR) Board of Directors subsequent to the WIR Board resignation of
Honolulu Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz on August 12, 2003.
Action to confirm Mr. Safarik's appointment is advisable before the next SAC Executive Committee
meeting. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is
granted for these matters to be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event
this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations for placement on its future agenda.
