We, at the school, support this amendment for the safety of our students, our primary concern. We feel the passage of this traffic code amendment would be beneficial for the following reasons: I) Moving the crosswalk to the traffic light will cause drivers to be more aware of slowing down for pedestrians. There has been excessive speeding along Kilauea Avenue before, during, and after school. This creates a hazardous condition for the students using that crosswalk. There has been at least six close calls due to cars not slowing down. During the most recent incident, the crossing guard pulled a child out of the way of a speeding car [hat ran right through the crosswalk. Relocation of the crosswalk would remedy this dangerous situation. 2) V'v"ith regard to the relocation of the bus stop to Kilauea Avenue, such a movement would alleviate traffic congestion. Currently, traffic backs up when school busses exit the parking ]ut making a left turn on to Kawailani Street. Normally, traffic on Kawailani and Kinoole Stmet at a.m. and p.m. pick-up and drop-off times is heavy. The buses leaving our campus compounds this problem. Relocation of the school Buses to Kilauea Avenue would alleviate these traffic problems. Thank you for you assistance in passing the above-referenced traffic code amendment. Sincerely yours, , i// Beverly Ann McCall Principal 3 O~ Comm. No. BAM:Ikh Ref. To: Rof. Uo1e „~~?~003_ AN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
