Deaz Councilman Holshuh:
I am writing in regards to the change of ordinance for Pakalana Street, Honoka'a Hawaii which is the street
that divides both Honoka'a Elementary School and Honoka'a High and Intermediate School. As it stands,
Pakalana Street becomes aone-way street during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during school days.
As principal of Honoka'a Elementary School, I am asking that Pakalana Street be turned into aone-way street
starting from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. Honoka'a High School changed it's starting time from 8:00 a.m. to 7:45
a.m.. Because the change in the start schedule is earlier, traffic on Pakalana Street becomes congested even
earlier than last year. This presents a hazard when cars are coming down the road at the same time parents are
dropping off their students and teachers, students, and buses are driving onto campus.
Safety is our outmost concern, and I would like proactive measures to take place rather than reacting to an
accident.
I invite you to come and observe the morning and afternoon traffic during school days. I thank you for your
