Yes, both California and now New York have the NO SMOKING IN ALL BARS AND RESTAURANTS. Here in New York it goes into effect in the middle of June this year, and yes, all of the bar owners and the bartenders are predicting losses beyond belief. In reality, after the smoke clears away (couldn't help using that pun!!!) the customer very easily gets used to standing outside and killing themselves. In Ca. most of the bars put ashtrays outside on the sidewalk, next to the entrance and it seemed like no time at all and the customers became used to it. I know of NO BAR in San Francisco that closed because of lost customers. The bartenders have to re-program themselves regarding half full (or half empty?) glasses sitting on the " " bar and NOT THROWING THEM OUT. The customer could be outside killing himself. In Ca. they stopped handing out matches, removed all ashtrays from the premises and took all cigarette machines out of the bars. And yes, you are right. The smoking customers WILL STILL GO TO THEIR FAVORITE BAR and in no time at all will discover the benefit of smoking outside. They will be able to check out the young "ladies" walking by!!!!! Good for you, keep up the good work. Smoking is absolutely a NO BRAINER. UD 13.2q Ref. To:~~~ ~ Ref. Uate Tuesday, July 22, 2003 America Online: CDGCDG
