The Council's agreement to exempt certain bars, residential care
homes and covered sidewalks from the "NO SMOKING BILL" (LAW) only
goes to show the HYPOCRISY connected with this very political,
thoughtless and inconsiderate approach to solving a social
problem. This Country has never been able to successfully
"Legislate Morals" and passing LAWS to do same has never solved
said problems, only created more problems.
This BILL (260), which was put into play in September of 2002, by
a woman who has since admitted to being raised in a smoke filled
environment and for many years worked in one, and shows no signs
of ill effects from "Second Hand Smoke", has been "Revised" seven
times. A Political Football being tossed around doing anything to
at least get some portion of this thoughtless Bill passed, in
order to get one more LAW on the books.
Most flying the banner of "SECOND HAND SMOKE" have their own
personal reasons, ignoring completely "That all tests done on the
subject have come back INCONCLUSIVE". As far as those saying
"There are so many establishments that I cannot go to because
there is smoking" I say if you don't like the smoke stay away
from it, just like "If you can't stand the heat stay out of the
kitchen". That is what this FREE, CAPITALISTIC SYSTEM is all
about, CHOICES and the freedom to THINK.
As far as the 16 year old "Drummer Boy" goes, the environment you
work in has far more detrimental aspects to your health, both
mental and physical than second hand smoke will ever have. My
advice, get out, play for your own Generation and perhaps you can
make a difference through the Free Enterprise System, instead of
falling into lock-step with a law, that will take us all further
down the road to "Authoritarian Control".
