LtE: Bi11260
Dear Honorable County Council Members:
I am writing in support of Bi11260 relating to smoking in the workplace including bars.
As a member o£ the East Hawaii community I would be proud to have you pass this bill.
However, please do not dilute it's content any further.
Twelve years ago I moved to Hilo ffom Honolulu where I left a fast paced corporate
position to open a small company to service a need in the distribution business. My first
reaction to Hilo business was the "small town mentalit}~' it possessed. As the years have
progressed and my business became a thriving one, that "small town mentalit}~' became
endearing; one I looked to protect. But progress does not have to mean closing our eyes
to the obvious. We can still maintain our "small town mentality" and look to the
experiences of large and experienced communities that have passed this non-smoking bill
and reaped numerous rewards, professionally and personally. Let's not keep the Hig
Island in the dark when it comes to progressing for the sake of health by passing Bi11260.
