Wai O/a Public Charter School October 21, 2003 Update
Wni Ola'Waters of Life' Public Charter School will be attending the 9;00 am County
Council meeting today with their entire student body of 130 students, as well as
teachers, board members, families, and friends. We have come to state our intentions of
continuing to run a good school that provides options in public schooling; to use their 28
acre Ala Loop Farm as a school site to educate their children about environmental
concerns facing our world, and being healthy in the great outdoors; and to continue being
good neighbors to the Ala Loop community.
Wai Ola's the school's extended community is composed of possibly 500 and more
individuals, and that does not even count those from the other 11 charter schools in this
island county, and all the Public Charter School supporters. The Local School Board of
the school as well as the rest of the ' Ohana are very disappointed with the lack of
representation they have received from some Councilmen and other public elected law
makers. Many students and parents feel that their lives are being unfairly threatened by
all of this, The school has been focused on learning how government works, and
has prepared testimony and gathered petitions to present to the Council.
The Mayor and his staff have been very honest and professional about telling us what we
must do obtain our certificate of occupancy in or existing 9,000 square foot facility on
the 28 acre Farm.
Wai Ola is very interested in working with the Ala Loop neighbors in resolving some of
the relevant concerns that exist in the neighborhood. We feel very strongly that we are
good neighbors, and regret that some of the neighbors have been led to this sad situation
by misinformation. We are sure that many of our neighbors are not involved in this
negative behavior. We would like to suggest that the entire community plan a Farm Fair
to be held at Wai Ola's Farm, in which all may sell their products-wouldn't that be great?
Then all of this publicity would work in every ones' favor I
