A paratransil system includes public and private mass transportation in the spectrum between the private automobiles and conventional transit, and includes modes that are demand responsive and share rides. These funds are derived from the Federal Highway Administration. The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation has authorized the subject grant with the goal of reducing the number of deaths and complications from serious injuries. resulting from motor vehicle accidents, by equipping fire crews with the tools to extricate pinned vehicle occupants faster than is currently done. The grant funds will be used to purchase power extrication tools. commonly called the "Jaws of Lile". and have them assigned to the Kaumana and Kawailani Firc units. STATEMENTS FROM THF.
