RE: Resolution No. 94, authorizing the County of Hawaii to enter into an agreement
with the United States of America far a tatewide Marijuana Eradication Grant.
The Committee on Finance held its committee meeting on June 3, 1997, a[ which time, the
aforementioned resolution was introduced and numerous public testimony was heard in
opposition of the Marijuana Eradication program. After much deliberation, the committee
decided to defer this measure pending a special meeting where further information may be
presented by both opponents and proponents of the program.
The special meeting has been scheduled for Monday, June 16, 1997, a[ 9:00 a.m. We would
like to request that representatives from the Hawaii County Police Department be in
attendance to answer questions which may arise in regard to departmental procedures during
eradication missions, the Countys responsibilities in adhering to grant conditions, and other
related issues.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to call myself or my Legislative Assistant,
Liana Cox at 961-8491.
Sincerely,
~
