BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED The Solution 2003 -Neighborhoods in Action is donating six (6) sets of locks displays for the Community Policing officers to educate the community on how to slow burgular entry, deter some crime and protect our homes and businesses better. SIGNED: DATE: NOV Z 9 ZOOS Department Head Page 1 of 1 Assistant Chief Thomas J. Hickcox From: Larry and Brenda Ford Sent: Tuesday, November 18, 2003 12:41 AM To: T J Hickox Subject: donation of lock displays November 17, 2003 Aloha Assistant Chief Hickox, Solutions 2003 -Neighborhoods In Action completed the construction of six (6) sets of lock displays for use by Community Police Officers in Hawaii County. These displays can be used at Neighborhood Watch meetings to teach the residents and business owners about the type of locks that may assist them in making their homes and businesses more burglar resistant. Each display set consists of a "mini-door" unit with an assortment of locks and a jalousie window unit with the clips that prevent the glass panes from being removed from the outside of the building. Lil Beaufrere's husband, Gene Wright, built these units and a set was displayed at the Solutions 2003 seminar. We hope that by having the Community Policing Officers use these sets to educate the community on how to slow burglar entry, we can deter some crime and protect our homes and businesses better. The Solutions "Lock It Up" program supports educating the public on this issue. We are requesting that you provide Councilmember Curtis Tyler with the request to have the County accept this gift (Value $565.00). Councilmember Tyler has agreed to sponsor the bill for the acceptance of the 6 sets of locks. Mahalo to you and the Hawaii County Community Police Officers for the wonderful job they are doing for us. Sincerely, Brenda Ford Volunteer, Solutions In Action 11/17/2003
