Aloha Committee members,
I am writing to oppose the O'oma property rezoning request before you today.
The applicant is obviously insincere in his development plan since he is trying to sell the
property at the same time he is trying to convince you that he has firm plans for it's
developments Do not make a mockery of the planning process by pretending not to
notice [iris glaring inconsistency.
But besides the procedural problems with this request, there are also more broad
public concerns. This property is connected to a much larger, critical, congervation-
zoned piece of coastal land pzoning to project District on this piece of ppTTOpenly could
have deleterious consequences for the other parts of the Kohanaiki-Kaloko-NELHA
.'puzzle.'.
The public will reap no benefit from this development plan An additiona1400
hotel rooms and commercial space will add to Kona's growing traffic problems, ocean
pnllufign. npise; and loss of coastal access. Public use activities such as cantVirifi and
coastal access should be modeled nn the recently concluded "Kohanaiici model,' with
equal input and cooperation between the community, the landowners, and the county.
This area comprises most of what its left of undeveloped, unplanned coastal land
in West Hawai i. It has been used contlnually -and with greater frequency as public

generations. Let's protect it!
