RE: Request For Hearing in Kailua-Kona
Deaz Councilman Elazionoff:
On November 7, the Planning Commission held a meeting in Kailua-Kona. One of the matters
being considered was a rezoning request by the applicant Nani Kona Aina, LLC (SLU 03-
007/REZ03-018). The request was for: (a) State Land Use Boundazy Amendment for 14.53
acres from the Agricultural to the Urban District, and (b) Change of zone for 14.53 acres from
the Agricultural 5-acre (A-SA) to the Single Family Residential - 10,000 squaze foot (RS-10)
district.
Many residents of the adjoining neighborhoods of Kona Heights and Kailua V iew Estates
testified regarding their concerns about traffic impacts, incremental zoning, lack of water and
other services, and detrimental impact to protected wildlife. As a result the Planning
Commission recommended not approving the requested amendments for rezoning.
The purpose of this letter is to request the meeting of the County Council be held in Kailua-Kona
when the Planning Commission's recommendation on this issue is considered. This is extremely
important to ensure that the concerns regazding the request are heard.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Please feel free to contact us if you desire more
information. We look forward to hearing from you regarding our request for a local heazing.
