Hawaii County Council:
I am writing you to support the landowner's application for a tatting change at
Oorna. Cliff Morris is a long time resident of Waikoloa V illage. I have known
him fir years, and I can say without fear of contradiction that he is an honest,
ethictJ, and upright gentleman. He is a member and strong supporter ot'the
Waikoloa Baptist Church. He. hosts a men's Bible study getup in his home
every week, which is attended by men of all religious denominations. Ynu
should not fear that he is one of the fast-buck operators from the mainland that
will come i,,, make a profit, and contribute nothing to the `aloe. He is very
concerned about the well being o f the local people, of whom he is one, and the
best use of his property along the shoreline to provide access to the public for '
maximum recreational use.
Whenever a proposal is made to develop uninnproved real estate in West
Haw,lit, hui are forue:l to oppus~~ it. These hui have high-sounding names, but
[hey always consist of the same familiar acxivist members of t:.A.V.b;. (Citizens
Against Virtually Everythinfi). 'Chcy are very vocal and are extremely skilled,
through years of practice, at throwing le:g,~il roadblocks up against nny progress
that might increase the economic. well. being of the silent majority. In the long
run, the only ones who benefit as a~ result of their efforts are their legal
representatives (attorneys), who eryoy ur7 enormous pay-off, when the case is
finally settled. The HIiI,CO debacle is a good example of this kind of situation.
