Arakaki and Members of the County Council County of Hawaii Hilo, HI 96720 Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members: It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the County of Hawaii Veterans Advisory Committee. American Legion - Peter J. Callahan of North Kona is a six year resident of Hawaii and serves as the Post Commander for the American Legion Kona Post 20. He also serves as a volunteer chaplain at the Kona Community Hospital. Mr. Callahan states that he is not affiliated with any political party and if confirmed, will be replacing Mr. Keith Burley, whose term expired on December 31, 2003. He will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2008. Independent- Richard L. Highley of South Kona has lived in Hawaii for 21 of the last 35 years, and has been here continuously for the past 13 years. Mr. Highley is very active in veterans affairs and has served on many of their organizations, such as the Disabled Americans Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Veterans Administration Volunteer. Mr. Highley states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will fill a vacant position and serve a term to expire on December 31, 2004.
