Teased on our review of the information contained in. your letter and in our files, including maps
prepared by the Hawaii Natural heritage Program, the endangt:rcd Hawaiian hoary bat, or
'Spc'apc'a (Lasiurus cinercrts semutuY), and the endangered Hawaiian hawk, or 'io {Huten
snllJOrius), arc present in the proposal action atroa and therefore should be considered in the
planning process for this area. 'fhe LJ.S. rich and Wildlife Scr<~icc would be pleased to offer our
tedulical assistance tilt this prujtxt or hRUe~: projects in w'der that impact, to listed native Hawaiian
species can be avoided or minimirsd. We arc conecrnai that loss of habitat for these listed species
resulting in fraglnenlatian may mt~an less area to forage and bree(l in and can result in increased
predation in some areas. In particular, the potential far loss o~ habitat in the Hicnaloli drainage for
'bpeLpe'a in this area should be addressed as should the potential for loss of rousting or nesting
trees for 'in. There arc no proposed species for listing ur desi~;ctated critical habitat in the project
r;rca.
