Comm. 548: PROPOSED KAU SPACEPORT
(Res. 93) From Councilwoman Keiko Bonk-Abramson, dated August 11,
1993, transmitting a resolution urging that the Council
not in any way support the construction of a Rocket
Launch Facility (RLF) in the District of Kau on the Big
Island or any other district or island within the State
of Hawaii for commercial or military purposes due to
the inevitable negative impacts of said construction on
the socio-economic rural structure of the Big Island
society, its unique environment, its multi-cultural
heritage, its growing astronomical community, its
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, its visitor industry
and the general physical, mental and emotional
well-being of its citizenry.

1993, transmitting information regarding the proposed
Rocket Launch Facility (RLF) for the Ka'u District of
the Island of Hawaii.

designation, funding or establishment of a rocket
launch facility on the Island of Hawaii and requesting
the State government to abandon any and all efforts to

Comm. 561: EXPANSION OF HELCO'S KEAHOLE POWER PLANT
From Warren H. W. Lee, P.E., President, Hawaii Electric
Light Company, Inc., dated August 13, 1993, concerning
the need for the expansion of HELCO's Keahole power
plant which is vital to the Big Island. States they
want to add an energy-efficient 58-megawatt generating
unit in order to meet their customers' needs.

Comm. 17.25: From Councilmember Keola Childs, dated August 27, 1993,
requesting that Bills 4 and 5, Land Use Development
Amendment and Change of Zone for Maryl Development, be
put on the agenda as all the issues raised by community
members have been addressed and most of those concerns
appear to have been satisfied through discussions
between the applicant and community members.
