JArakaki
From: "Kenneth L Brooks" <kahu7Qjuno.com> ~ 1`~'
To: <jarakaki@interpac.net>
Sent: Monday, January 19, 2004 7:48 AM 20Qy ,PN 22 9 wg
Subject: Re: O'oma Properties of Kailua Kona
Aloha James, G~~-`' 1 ~j,~NFI\
CDUNI
I am writing to express my support for the development of the eighty three acres of O'oma properties
along Queen Kaahumanu Highway, the North Kona Town Center. I am awaze from recent newspaper
articles that the Sierra Club is opposed to the approval of this project but I believe their reasoning is
flawed and shortsighted when cazefully examined.
If I understand the Sierra Club's logic they believe that the approval of this location as a shopping site

would create a log jam of auto traffic [can only wonder when they last drove that road during daylight

hours?
One of the main problems is the lack of a four lane artery into, through and south of Kona, NOT the
presence of automobiles. The number of automobiles and their usage of that main artery has increased
and will continue to increase due to population/residential growth whether a shopping azea at O'oma is
approved or not. That I believe is a given. It seems to me that the North Kona Town Center
developed into a first class shopping center would provide quite the opposite of the Sierra Club's
claims. It would allow convenient shopping for the multiplied thousands of people who live in the
South Kohala and North Kona communities. It would also provide earlier/easier access to quality
shopping thus alleviating increased congestion along the artery into downtown Kailua. I believe this
project will take far more cars out of the heart of Kona than it will put on the roads. This may be one
of the better solutions to our existing traffic problems while greatly improving the quality of life for
thousands of people.
I would ask that you give consideration to these thoughts and approve the development of O'oma for
the benefit of those seeking convenient, quality places to shop.
Mahalo nui loa,
Rev.
