Given the increasing burdens upon Queen Kaahumanu Highway, especially between Ke- ahole Airport and Kailua-Kona, our Association has participated in various forums over the past two years in order to protect the interests of our Association members who may be adversely affected by the design of future highway expansion. It is critical to our members tllat our highway access be retained when Queen Kaahumanu Highway is widened. We understand that the State Department of Transportation(DOT) is the ultimate authority as to this issue, and we will continue to be pro-active in addressing this issue and formulating potential solutions with DOT. Last year, Rutter/KW Kohanaiki, LLC(Rutter), the developer of the Shores at Kohanaiki, a project that is to be located makai of Kohanaiki Business Park and the Queen Kaafiumanu Highway, agreed to work with our Association in addressing highway issues with DOT. We expect to be working with Rutter and its engineers within the next few weeks on those issues. We hope that our other neighbors will also join in this cooperative effort to develop a plan that will be acceptable to DOT and will protect the interests of property owners in this segment of the highway corridor to and from Kailua-Kona. I appreciate the opportunity to provide this information to you. If you should have any questions, I would be happy to try to respond.
