Subject: Marc "Rocky" Freitas statement for dirt bike (motocross) track
Hi. My name is Rocky Freitas. I am a Medical Laboratory Technician at Diagnostic Laboratory
Services. I am married and have two remarkable boys. I am very sorry that I could not attend
the meeting today. I am in Oahu with my son Jason for his class fieldtrip.
I have been riding dirt bike for many years. This is a sport that I enjoy teaching and
participating with my children. Sad to say that there is no "legal" facility to ride on. The outer
islands have had a track for many years, but not the Big Isle. Dirt bike (motocross) riding is a
sport that is rapidly growing. Sales for these vehicles are at an all time high. There are more
and more people riding on streets and private properties due to the lack of a facility. I feel that
having a motocross track facility here in Hilo will be a great benefit for our community. This
would bring friends and families closer together. It will give our children a place to ride safely
while perfecting their skills. It will keep riders off of the streets and private properties. It will also
bring in revenue to our local business.
During the past few years, my family as well as many other families had to travel to the outer
islands to participate in competitions. We have spent a lot of money on those trips. Wouldn't it
be nice for the outer islands to come here for competition? Wouldn't it be nice for our children to
have a facility to ride safely? I thank you for your time in listening to my views and opinions.
Sincerely,
Rocky Freitas
