Re: Operating Budget
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating an
additional $9,932 to the Elderly Activities Division's Coordinated Services Program for the
Elderly (CSE) Purchase of Services account. The State of Hawaii Department of Human
Services has again increased the Chore Agreement for the County of Hawaii. These
funds will supplement the current salaries and wages, mileage, and medical supplies
budget of CSE, and enable the staff to provide in-home chore services to an increased
number ofdisabled/older adults.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED)
Council action is needed to amend the Coordinated Services Operating Budget to accommodate increases
in State funding. The Department of Human Services increased the Chore Agreement for Hawaii County by
$9,932 for the period starting February 1, 2004 to June 30, 2004. ($4,966 for West Hawaii and $4,966 for
East Hawaii) This additional amount in State grant funds will supplement the current salaries and wage,
mileage, and medical supplies budget of Coordinated Services. It will enable Coordinated Services staff to
provide in-home chore services (routine housecleaning, laundry, meal preparation, shopping assistance,
errands and escort services) to an increased number of disabled/older adults.
