SUBJECT: Resolution No. 55-03, Draft 5 - Supporting the Preservation and
Conservation of Wao Kele `O Puna
Attached for your favorable consideration is Resolution 55-03, Draft 5, of proposed
Resolution Supporting the Preservation and Conservation of Wao Kele `O Puna. Draft 5
corrects typographical errors of Draft 4.
"The following WHEREASES were changed as follows:
WHEREAS, in December of 1985 the State of Hawaii exchanged approximately 27,800
acres of ceded lands, once part of the Kingdom of Hawaii, that included the Wao Kele
`O Puna Natural Area Reserve and other Puna lands on the Island of Hawaii for
approximately 25.800 acres of land at [I4a}~tt1e'a] KahauaLe'a then owned by the Estate
of James Campbell; and
WHEREAS, Wao Kele `O Puna was originally designated a Natural Area Reserve
because it possesses [e#] certain unique and valuable ecological resources and values that
are worthy of and particularly merit protection and preservation; and
The following BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED were changed as follows:
BF. IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk transmit copies ofthis resolution
to the Honorable Linda Lingle[,], Governor[,]; the Honorable Harry Kim[;], Mayor[,];
and Trustees of the Estate of James Campbell.
