Re: Dirt BikelATV Track
Dear Council Member Safarik:
Thank you for the opporturrity to review and provide comments on the proposed bill to amend
the capital budget by appropriating $50,000 for materials and construction of a recreational
and safety training area for the dirt bike and all-terrain vehicle community. The proposed
location is at the Hilo Drag Strip, but it will serve the entire island. Volunteers from the
community will assist in the actual construction of the track.
1 understand that the Department of Parks and Recreation has been involved in the planning of
this project, and supports it. I also support this worthwhile project, which we hope will reduce
illegal dirt bike/ATV riding on public and private roads and highways and allow police to
direct traffic violators to a legal designated area.
Please be aware, however, that if this appropriation bill passes, there is no source of funds set
aside for the project at this time.
