Started in August 2003 with the selection of Sergeants. Police Officer III officers
selected in October 2003. Currently 1 Sergeant and 2 Police Officer IYI are assigned to
both East and West Hawaii. Due to manpower shortage Ice Task Force officers are
assisted by and also assist the other officers assigned to their respective Vice Sections.

KEAHOLE AIRPORT DRUG SMUGGLING UNIT ($179 304)
Currently 1 officer from the Kona Vice Section is federally deputized by DEA to conduct
drug interdiction investigations at the Kona International Airport. This officer is assisted
by a narcotic canine team and at times by other officers of the Vice Section. Due to
other ongoing investigations, officers make weekly checks of the interisland and
mainland flights, parcel services and freight companies. They also assist US Customs
Service evith checking international flights and passenger ship vessels.

Vehicles will be utilized in supporting the Ice Task Force units in their operations.
Vehicles are to transport personnel and equipment to search warrant raids and dailly
operations, which also includes the Special Response Team Tactical Unit during high risk
investigations involving crystal methamphetamine.

KONA POLICE STATION STORAGE FACYLITY ($29.000)
Currently using a donated recycled Matson container that leaks during heavy rain and
has no ventilation. This container is utilized as temporary storage of evidence recovered
during drug investigations where chemicals or other hazards are of a concern.
