Dear Bruce,
The Kona Traffic Safety Committee (KTSC) recommends the creation of a truck-
loading zone in front of Waterfront Row on Alii Drive. This will result in the loss of
three parking spaces, but the zone is desperately needed for safety and commerce.
KTSC has heard testimony from the Alii Drive Community Action Team (ADCAT) who
carried-out site inspections along the length of Alii Drive and surveyed almost 1 ,000
residents, business owners, and visitors. The team witnessed a number of places
along the Drive where trucks have to ~ I~i
pull onto the sidewalk to unload their ~ ~ i
products creating an uncomfortable and
potentially unsafe environment for
pedestrians.

use of trucks along Alii Drive last March. The minutes from that meeting are
attached. The attendees discussed the use of trucks along Alii Drive and by the end
of the meeting, the most feasible solutions to this problem is the creation of truck
loading zones.
In the area near Waterfront Row it is particularly important to provide a dedicated
loading zone because rocl<walls and telephone poles already limit the pedestrian
space. We encourage the identification of more loading zones along Alii Drive that
many of us think can only be accomplished by making Alii Drive aone-way road.
