Dear Mr. Arakaki:
It is my understanding that at this time the Federal funding
intended for marijuana eradication has come before the County
Council for approval. As a parent and a concerned citizen
dedicated to the promotion of a better society I would like to urge
you to support this funding. It would be very unfortunate if a
handful of people who do not represent the majority of our Big
Island community are able to block the eradication efforts which
have resulted in reducing the availability oP this extremely
harmful drug as well as the criminal and violent activity which is
associated with it.
when I was growing up in the 60s marijuana was believed to be
harmless. However based on Current scientific research, we know
now that this drug can be very damaging both psychologically and
physically. In my work as an administrator of the Child Welfare
Services oP the Department of Human Services T have personally
observed the negative effects of the drug in troubled youth and
many parents who abuse their children.
it seams like we have come a long ways Prom those days when
marijuana was so accessible to children of all ages and the threat
of booby traps and violent encounters with growers was a common
experience. Again I'd like to reiterate my support for the funding
necessary to continue the marijuana eradication program here on the
Big Island and hope that you will. lend your support as well.
