PROJECT TITLE: RECONSTRUCTIONIST EXPERT

Countermeasures
SOLUTION
To improve the investigation of fatal collisions by:
1. Use of federal grant to fund a traffic crash reconstruction expert for the second of two
years of the program.
2. Use traffic crash reconstruction expert in at least twelve fatal collision investigations.
3. Effectively deal with the problem of personnel rotation caused by retirements,
transfers and promotions.
4. With the information provided by the traffic crash reconstruction expert, we can
improve the required information being provided to the State Department of
Transportations Fatal Analysis Reporting System (F.A.R.S.).
Goals and Objectives of Project.
The goals and objectives of this project are:
The goal of this project is to fund a traffic crash reconstruction expert to assist with and
improve fatal investigations and to improve the information being provided to the State
Department of Transportation for their F.A.R.S. program.
GRANT PERIOD RESULTS:
(FINAL REPORT)
A traffic crash reconstruction expert was utilized in eleven fatal crash investigations. The
Traffic Enforcement Unit is also improving their traffic fatal investigations and have
received training in crash investigation, reconstruction and the use of total station crash
scene forensic mapping.
The Traffic Enforcement Unit is also reviewing their investigative and report writing
techniques to improve the information being provided to the F.A.R.S. program.
