SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
Kamaoa Road
Proposed speed limits.
The Department of Public Works Traffic Division requests speed limits be authorized along Kamaoa Road between
South Point Road and Route 11. A speed study consisting of trial runs was conducted and we find speeds ranging
from 25 MPH to 40 MPH is appropriate for Kamaoa Road. We have been in contact with the Ka'u Police
Department and they support this proposal.
We request the Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10, Section 24-255, Schedule 3 (25 mile per hour limit);
Section 24-256, Schedule 4 (30 mile per hour limit); and Section 24-259, Schedule 7 (40 mile per hour limit) be
amended as described in the attached draft for an ordinance. A location map is attached.
Under separate cover, we are transmitting the proposed ordinance to the Public Works Committee Chair for
introduction.
