SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
OLD VOLCANO ROAD IN KEAAU VILLAGE
NO PARKING ZONE
We support the Department of Public Works' request for a No
Parking Zone along the Old Volcano Road in Keaau as described
in the attached draft for an ordinance.
We understand that this will allow the creation of exclusive
left turn lanes at the Keaau-Pahoa Road intersection, which
will greatly assist our patrol vehicles through that
intersection during emergency response situations.

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24 (TRAFFIC SCHEDiJLE), OF THE HAWAII
COUNTY CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 10, division 5, section 24-280, schedule 28 (No pazking
at anytime), subsection (g) Puna, of the Hawaii County Code (1995 edition), is amended by '
adding the following to be appropriately numbered and to read as follows:
u O(d Volcano Road. in Keaau Village. both sides. be ig'nning at a point
eiehty-two feet northeast of Pili Mua Street and extending nine hundred
~.ixty. feet in the northeasterly direction.
SECTION 2. Chapter 24, article 10, division 5, section 24-283, schedule 31 (One hour
parking areas}, subsection (g) Puna, of the Hawaii County Code (1995 edition), is amended by
deleting the following item:
[(1) Old Mamalahoa Highway in Keaau, both sides, between the Police Station
Road and Milo Street.]
SECTION 3. Chapter 24, article 10, division 6, section 24-288, schedule 36 (Freight
loading zones), subsection (g) Puna, of the Hawaii County Code (1995 edition), is amended by
deleting the following items:
((2) Mamalahoa Highway, makai side, Volcano side of the Olaa to Kapoho
Road, twenty feet.
(3) Olga to Kapoho Road, Volcano side, makai of Mamalahoa Highway, twenty feet.
(4) Old Volcano Highway, beginning at a point one hundred forty-eight feet north of
Highway 130 and extending twenty-four feet in the northerly direction.]

SECTION 4. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New material is underscored. In
printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed material and underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 5. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person
or circumstances, is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications
of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to
this end, the provisions of this ordinance aze declared to be severable.
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval. _ ,
