Re: New Police Substation
Captain Cook
Deaz Chairman Arakaki and Members of the County Council:
I am writing to confirm my interest in providing land in Captain Cook along the
Mamalahoa Highway for use as a future police substation and perhaps as a new fire
station. This follows several meetings and discussions with Councilman Reynolds,
Dwight Manago, Chief Mahone, and others.
Last year, I purebased the subject property which is approximately seven acres in
size (TMK (3) 8-2-3:5). I was approached by Councilman Reynolds regarding my plans
for this property. I was in the initial stage oi'planning and agreed to explore We
possibility of providing between 1.5 and 3 arses to the County fox expansion of its police
and fire facilities. Over the following months, we cottfirmed serious interest by Chief
Mahone and Councilman Reynolds and Mr. Manago regarding this site.
Based on that background and recognition of a growing community need, I am
interested in working with the County t,o provide from 1.5 to 3 acres within this property
fox future police and fire facilities. I will want to be compensated monetarily or in-kind
for such acreage at fair market value.
The subject property is zoned for corrunercial uses (CV-7.5) along the highway,
but the makai portion of the property is zoned A-la. I will also ask that the County
initiate rezoning that portion to a commercial zone. Incidentally, l would like, if at all
possible, to retain and rehabilitate the oid Kona Theatre that is also located on this
property. I would be interested in working with the appropriate agencies to salvage this
historic site.

pursuing this matter. I would appreciate as prompt a reply as possible because the time
hea come for me to proceed with a design for development of this property. Please let me
