Subject: Government folly on gasoline
Aloha all,
I think the attachment to this a-mail pretty well presents the case in a picture, rather than a thousand
words. At the State level I am appalled that under the guise of holding down prices, government would
price gouge neighbor island residents by RAISING surcharges by $.O8 per gallon on the most
expensive gasoline in the country. Gas price caps will only accomplish two things. Initially the prices
will shoot up to the cap and after that we will see shortages as suppliers move to sell in the other 49
states. For my State Government to try and rip me off for an additional $.08 per gallon simply because
I don't live on Oahu is atrocious!
At the County level I am astounded that we would even consider raising road maintenance funds from
only our gasoline powered vehicles. Especially when heavier vehicles, for the most part, burn diesel
fuel and cause more weaz and teaz on our roadways. The vehicle weight tax system, already in place, is
the only fair and logical way to raise necessary funds for road maintenance. Use it for crying out loud!
