Arakaki, Chair County Council 25 Aupuni Street Room 209 Hilo, HI 96720 Variance Request for Size of Signs Alii Gardens Marketplace 75-6129 Alii Drive Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 Tax Map Key (3) 7-5-020:070 Agricultural Lot 5A Dear Sir; We are requesting a variance on the size of our signs to 3' x 6' which we feel would make the signs more in scale with the physical size of our project property. (Approximately 350' frontage & 2.5 acres) In addition, we feel that from a moving motorist's safety point of view our signs should be somewhat larger than the ordinance calls for. Moving motorist on Alii Drive would benefit from a somewhat larger sign to identify the property in ample time so that turning into the Marketplace would be safe, easy and it would avoid "turn rounds." From an aesthetic point of view, the signs will be a beautifully hand carved duplication of our Logo (see pictures attached) and the requested size works best for the layout of the Logo artwork. Qiote: " imp prepared by Davie J. Hoover is on file in thie Office of the Cou-ity Clerk.) 5$?i Comm. No. _— Ref. To: Ref. Late AAII"" We feel that a variance would be in keeping with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance article and public interest. Please note that our Use Permit (USE 142) & (SMA 358) (see attached) allows for two signs; "one sign wilt be located at each corner of the property which fronts on Alii Drive."
